Building up the picture

Back from my weekend away, which was the usual mad catch up of everyone's lives (and there had been lots going on between us) and a much needed break though much too short. It was also a chance to check out new places - we're working our way around the UK as we check off cities and counties.

I've been doing a lot of thinking this summer about where this is all heading, particularly as I've continued to hold back on being public with my work. Done little art aside from fixing up some finished pieces that needed a bit of refinement or had their bases replaced for a smaller footprint. For a while I've had some pain and stiffness in my right forearm below the elbow. Assumed it was a mix of holding it at an angle for hours while I sculpt and following that with lots of typing and mouse clicking at work. So, I took a break from sculpting to see if it helped and happily, it didn't, by which I mean, three days off work did - after all I'd hate to find it's sculpting which is the problem.

Have also been thinking about painting (again)(that might also be a procrastination tactic), as I recently got some acrylics and soft pastels on offer which are begging to be used. Here's one I did last year and no, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. It was related to the West Country coastline or something...But it was fun and I learned a bit. Which is the main thing, otherwise why do it?

And I've been researching Twitter as a way to get my images out there. Now that's a shocker for anyone who knows me! Social media? You?! Facebook, that data slurping black hole, owns Instagram so they can take a hike. I may even end up with a smart phone at some point. Shock horror again. But then, never say never. Me, I'm a bit contrary and prefer to stand back and observe for a while rather than jump in and follow a crowd. I can be slow to start but once I'm clear what the goal is (and I've struggled with that), then I set my plans out and tear right into it. Funny how the thinking/decision part is often way harder than the doing of it. What's that all about?
