Art 'showing' vs Art 'planning'

Quick-ish post today with a plug for the emerging artists show at the Oxo Tower in London which starts tomorrow. My manager Chel Maritz was taking her work in and getting set up this afternoon. Yes, having survived the terrors of the New Artists Fair in September, she is all gung ho (sort of) to have another session in the spotlight.

For those of you who are extroverts, you'll probably not realise just how hard it is for many artists to step out and present their work. I have the same reluctance to talk about what I do - the difference is that Chel is much better at actually doing it while I'm really good at planning and thinking about it, hence the blog title!

I'd looked into doing a November craft market but with only 4 weeks notice when the details finally arrived, it wasn't feasible as I have limited funds from my part time work to cover the costs e.g. taxi fares as I have no transport to take enough work + my own tables etc., £150 for the stall, a means to receive payment, which will probably be an iZettle (£50 odd) and a smart phone to use it (£90 odd for a PAYG which takes great pictures), and business cards would be useful too. So. That's ok though. It would've been a scramble to get everything sorted in time and at least I know what I need to be budgeting for in future and will be ready for the next one. I've done the short notice/mad rush thing before and I don't like it one bit.

Meanwhile, remaining with the tech challenge, I'm trying to watch the World Gymnastics Championships in Doha. When YouTube manages to synch the video with audio that is. So while I wait, I'm sketching ideas for my next few pieces and tidying the table ready to start work. Meanwhile, the mind map for my future plans gets larger and more detailed...
