Fixer uppers and makeovers

'Normal' week so far with the bonus of 2 days annual leave as well. Woo hoo. Since I work part time I usually end up with a chunk of leave at year end so will be out of office for half of December. So good having my time back.

Kill the chill!

Been reasonably productive with a combination of tidying up various segments of my room. That included realising the mini door to the roof space wasn't wood made to look like cladding (i.e. a solid piece) but six individual slats with minimal attachment to each other. So all those gaps...are actual gaps and boy were they letting in a stream of cold air. All those years and obviously no one's realised why it's such a cold space in Winter.

Out came the base foam sheet rescued from my last place when new flooring went in one of the downstairs rooms. It was put out for the tip but I knew it'd come in useful for something. That something has mostly been plugging up things like this. The joys of old houses with wonky walls.

One last thing

Yesterday the weather was wild but today is bright and sunny so I'll go to the gallery with some pieces this afternoon to see if any hit the spot with Jackie. Hoop girl is done - again. It looked nice enough but the rear leg angle was a bit high and it annoyed me for a day or two so then I just had to fix it. Street dance girl's base needed doing and the hair fixing. Wretched phone camera makes the head look way too big as usual. Grrr.

Tried a few colour things but didn't like them so now she just has a few bits of pink here and there.

I'm taking the rhythmic Y-scale and the pink flag handstand plus the male dancer/grand jete one as well. Added a bit more silver leaf to his torso then just had to tinker with the hands which were a bit heavy at the sides. If you go back and look at pieces you'll always find something you're not happy about!

Rock man...hasn't moved since I painted him a bit and there are two others part started. One will probably have it's legs shortened. In fact, I've just decided to move the arms as well and it's going to be more like the pastel piece that used to be on the home page. Ahhh, now I feel re-energised to go back and finish it!

If it's not working...

Ditto for my autumn wood girl. At this stage it just doesn't grab me. It lacks elegance so she's going to have a major make over. Not sure what that will be yet. Okay, so even though I'm reworking two pieces it's still a good thing. If it's not feeling right there's no point forcing it. You have to look forward to seeing the outcome of what you're making or painting and if the early stages aren't pulling you back to keep working on it, it's unlikely to thrill you or potential customers.

I'm looking at that hair on street dancer again...I may have to change it.
