Rebellious ribbons and glue games

The theme this week has been - things that stick where you don't want and don't stick to what you do want stuck. A reminder to keep a scrupulously clean work surface and have tweezers on hand at all times to stop your fingers sticking to things they shouldn't be sticking to - including each other.

Just about finished kite flying lady. Decided to leave the base in wood rather than cover with paper. Gave it a 50:50 diluted coating of white glue first to keep the stain (acrylic ink) from soaking in so fast there's no time to spread it around. That didn't quite work so maybe the glue was too dilute to make a decent coating. Had to dilute the ink instead and that worked okay.

I spent quite a while messing around with the ribbons on the kite. I had them glued around a thin piece of wire but they were very reluctant to stick in too many areas. I also accidentally got something flaky on the work top stuck to one of the ribbons (oops) and though it could be mostly scraped off, the ribbon doesn't look so great.

Having given them a bit of a twirl effect...decided this morning that they aren't really working. I'll carefully pull out the wire, reshape the ends of the kite then maybe try again but just with ribbon and Paverpol so they don't droop sadly.

Or maybe...I'll use paper. Hmm, that might work better, being lighter and easier to shape once it's got Paverpol brushed on.

This one is headed to the Corner Gallery. I've had a few emails about art fairs recently so it looks like things are getting back in the swing for exhibiting.

Won't be doing another art fair since the outlay is way too much for the payback. Good to have done one so I know how they work and to get a lot of feedback in a short time frame but it's a lot of money if you don't sell. With hundreds of artists the competition for sales is high.

If I get round to it I might go for a visit. No doubt it will get me thinking about painting again and some day I'll figure out what sort of painting I want to do!
